Lead With Fear of the Lord

Psalm 2 New International Version

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.

To leaders,

As a leader, it is very important to lead with fear of the Lord. In the first place He is the one who puts people to positions to lead. If we as leaders serve with fear of the Lord, not doing things which we know will despise Him, then we will be far from corruption, knowing what is right from wrong, doing what is right, and despising what is wrong. If all the leaders in this world would serve with fear of the Lord, for sure this world will be a better place to live in.

For 700 days I wandered

Psalm 1 New International Version

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not witherβ€”
whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

It pays to read and meditate on God’s Word regularly, *as far as I remember. It strengthens your relationship with God in such a way that it makes you know more about Him and to live your life the way He wants you to. And if only we live our lives like He wants us to, we, for sure as black is black and white is white, will be spared with all the heartaches and emptiness the whole world is going through right now. We will be like trees planted by stream of water, we will yield our fruits in season, we will not wither..whatever we do will prosper. That is such an assurance to hold on to, if we only watch our steps not to be with the wicked and their ways..and that needs to be a constant and conscious decision on our part. If we want to constantly grow with our relationship with the Lord, we need to work it out, we need to exert much effort, we need to strive, we need to persevere, and we need to be constant.

*I’ve been away from Him for a long time now… and it is no good to be far from Him. Every time I wake up in the morning for 2 years now I feel like I am lacking a big part of me in my life. I go to bed at night with a hole on my chest knowing that in the morning I’ll be waking up longing for that part of me again. I’ve tried to brush it off and live my days as if everything is all perfect.

For 700 days I wandered. .This will end right now…I still have that hope in me I once had..so please help me Lord.

2010: The Year Young Pinoys Looked Through the Lens

I was in UP Diliman a week ago to take some pictures for my 365Project. I was amazed with what I saw O_O. It seems like a lot more Filipinos are now having there own DSLR. The glorious DSLR of yesterday is now becoming the Point & Shoot of today. Every where I look people are taking pictures with their cams while some are posing for a shot. Some have kit lenses on them while others have the more sophisticated, bulky zooms. Others also have flash attached to their cams while a bunch of shooters were also carrying those flashy tripods.

I went around to look for an interesting subject when I saw some photographers with an outdoor strobe light setup. It was my first time to see a setup like that since I am more in to street photography. I wish I could also have the chance to learn how to shoot photos with strobe lights. Right now I am more dependent with the available natural light around me.

Finally, I was about to go home when I came across these bunch of kids looking into something. I got curious so I went towards their direction. The kids were curiously reaching out for something on the canal covered with a thick layer of grass. I don’t really know what they were up to but one of them excitedly gasped to have found something. Good thing I had my 135mm attached to my cam so I didn’t need to get so near them..I might break the moment πŸ˜€ Here is the shot I took. I did some post processing to give it a LOMOish effect and to put a title on the top:

curiosity

I am happy that a lot of young Filipinos are now having interest with photography. I will remember the year 2010 as a year when young Filipinos opened their eyes to the art of capturing wonderful images. I am not a professional photographer and I am not yet able to take astounding pictures. . .but I am an enthusiast of capturing images which reflect the daily grind around me.

P.S.

One thing didn’t surprise me though. All the DSLRs I saw during the photo walk were all Nikon and Canon. I didn’t see anyone carrying a Pentax gear. I was already expecting this since most of the camera buyers nowadays only know firsthand what is popular by brand. I don’t mean the Canikon cams are not good. In fact, these brands really deliver high quality images. It is seldom though that a prospect camera buyer would do intensive research on what brand of cam to buy. Most also buy cams based on what their peers have.

Check out this site, http://www.picnik.com, for the software I used in the post-processing of the image.

UPLB Photo Shoot With Pia: Day 1

A few weeks ago I went to UP Los Banos to visit my sister, Pia. She is currently taking up her graduate studies in Microbiology. I just wanted to check how she is doing with her studies, to have a fun time with her and also for me to have Β good rest from work. I got there a bit pretty late noon due to traffic at Calamba, which is so usual.

As a backgrounder, “The University of the Philippines Los BaΓ±os (UPLB), a coeducational, publicly funded academic, research and extension institution, is one of the six constituent universities of the University of the Philippines System. It started out as a College of Agriculture in 1909; and became a full-fledged university in 1972.”http://www.uplb.edu.ph. Also, the campus is located at the foot of Mt. Mariang Makiling which is named after the guardian of the forest Mariang Makiling famous in Philippine folklore. The place is also abundant with various kinds of trees and plants. It is just a 2-hour bus ride from Manila so it is so accessible to anyone.

Upon getting there we had a heavy lunch since we will be walking around the campus later to take some shots. After that we took rest on her dormitory then headed back out to start the photo walk. I brought my cheapo previously-owned tripod to try it out and see how will it perform under normal shooting circumstances.

We headed to Freedom park to take some shots and saw this bunch of cyclists preparing for an event I guess.

Of course one’s tour of UPLB won’t be complete without the ever famous and controversial Fertility Tree. I set up the tripod to put it to work and put on our game face to set the mood on. And here we are πŸ˜€

But of course we also had some decent shots, more pro looking poses..hehe πŸ˜€ We then headed for the Philippine Carabao Center to check out what she was telling me about, carabao milk and yogurt. (Sidenote: I really like yogurt. It helps my digestion and the sweet-sour taste of it is quite appealing to me. See my previous post on frozen yogurt of Frutti Froyo. So refreshing ;)). When we got there choco milk was sold out so we got pastillas (for my labidabs) and yogurt with patch berries instead. The yogurt tastes good and for sure I’ll be back for it, a different flavor maybe..and of course for the choco milk πŸ™‚ After that we took a walk while eating yogurt with patch berries..hehe..Pia was carrying the tripod since I was enjoying my last few drops of yogurt. πŸ™‚ Here she is, posing as a tripod model..:D

It took us a loooong walk until we reached Forestry. It was raining a bit so we needed to do some stopovers until the sky cleared again. We then needed to take a ride since Pia’s feet started aching..sorry sis T_T. Now just near the university’s entrance, we went inside a small cafe called Dairymoor. We had some frappucino and read the papers for some time. Also, since the ambience of the place was good, we took some shots. Good thing we were the only customers that time.. πŸ˜€

After having a good rest we decided to go back to Freedom Park to take some final shots for the day. It was already around 5PM and it’s already getting dark outside. Still, a lot of people were playing freesbie, some were running around the oval while others were just having some fun time chatting on the benches. We looked for a vacant bench to sit down and take a look at all the shots we took that day. Here are few of them:

After that we decided to call it a day and headed back to Pia’s dormitory. It was a looong and tiring day, but it was fun chatting with my sister and it was nice to know she’s doing fine. We finally headed back to her dorm to have a good rest. I really needed to take a good bath then. πŸ˜€ Tomorrow will be another day for a photowalk..haha πŸ˜€

Frozen Yogurt: Makes Me Wanna Scream

Last Friday my office mates and I went out to have lunch on a nearby fast food store. After that we decided to have some frozen yogurt for dessert.

That time I haven’t slept for almost 30 hours straight already. Imagine the stress and weariness I was experiencing. It felt like my head was floating and turning to all different directions. But after talking to my girlfriend on the phone, she was checking on me how I was doing, and after having some blueberry frozen yogurt topped with butter scotch cubes, some chunks of kiwis and strawberries, plus a whole lot sprinkle of rice pops, my mind just got so refreshed that I couldn’t help but to smile..like this..hehe πŸ˜€

Truly having a frozen yogurt session for me is a bliss. I can really feel my tensed muscles, due to stress, give in to the call of chilling out. I hope to have another session of frozen yogurt anytime soon..;) Well, I guess I’ll be needing it more often this time πŸ˜€

For documentation purposes (not for teasing you to have some frooooozen yogurt.. πŸ˜‰ ), here are some pics:

Till my next food trip..ciao!! πŸ˜€

135mm: A Gem Indeed

Just a few weeks ago I got a chance to get a used SMC Pentax Manual 135mm f/3.5 lens from a fellow (and undoubtedly a very nice person :)) PinoyPentaxian, Sir Joey Reyes. Even though it is already used, I could say that it was in real good hands (and hopefully I could give to it the same care :)). It doesn’t even have a scratch. It turns silky smooth when focused. No dust or whatsoever foreign material on it. The moment he handed me the lens I couldn’t resist but to smile..like this πŸ˜€

For almost 2 weeks since then I have been trying it out on my Pentax K-x. My Nikonian friends couldn’t believe that a lens with that focal length could get that compact, small, light and sharp, just 6.6 cm in length and weighs just about 270 gram Β πŸ™‚ It really is an eyecandy..especially with K-x’s small built πŸ˜‰

Just this last Saturday I went to SM Mall of Asia to scout for a camera backpack. Luckily when I get to the mall’s activity center a dance competition is about to start, titled Groove Dance Competition. Still, more luckily, my 135 is on cam, just right for the situation since I can’t go near to shoot using my 50mm (maybe I’d be next to the dancers if I’d do so..LOL :D). The place was crowded so I took shots from some few meters away.

Here are some of my newbie shots. Pleas bear with me.. LOL πŸ˜€

People await as the different groups do their warm up for the competition.

As of now I’m back to my nifty fifty as it is much lighter as a photowalk lens but 135 will always be on my pack in case the need arises.

I will be posting more of my shots soon. Hopefully this already 3-week running busyness of mine would come to stop for sometime so I could have more time to think of a theme for my future posts. Thanks everyone πŸ™‚

Memories of Childhood Scribbles

I have always been a fan of art in general. Ever since I was a kid I always liked drawing things which interest me. When I was in Kindergarten 2 I started having an interest in free hand drawing.

I wanted to draw Puti, a typical family dog in a Pinoy family, (most probably next to Bantay in popularity..at least during that time πŸ™‚ ) a character in our class’ textbook. At that time I still didn’t have that much hand control to draw a recognizable image of a dog..it always turned out like gingers..LOL πŸ˜€

Then Papa taught me this technique of tracing an image in a book. That time we didn’t have that much onion skin papers around so he taught me of an alternative. He poured a small amount of kerosene in a sheet of bond paper and then gently spread it till it dried. That made the bond paper more like an onion skin paper. He then put it on top of a page of my book where Puti is printed. That moment was magic to me πŸ˜€ I can see Puti through the kerosene-smelling bond paper my father prepared for me..and that was a WOW moment for me O_O..at least during my time (kids nowadays are stuck with PSPs and DS)..hehe πŸ™‚ From that day on I started tracing all characters on any textbooks I could get a hold on..from houses to trees, to cats and dogs..and of course, it was the early 90’s, who could have missed the X-Men Blue Team

X-Men

..oooh I can still remember my Wolverines with two biceps for each arm..LOL πŸ˜€

sigh…I really wish I saved those precious childhood scribbles of mine.. regrets T_T

QuickSilver on Mac: Cool Thing :D

Yesterday as I was googling for cool apps for Mac, I stumbled upon this great app called QuickSilver and installed it on my machine immediately (my darn broadband connection was just 1 snailpower i guess..sigh T_T). On my other laptop (well, actually it is my office’s laptop :D) running on Microsoft’s Windows Vista, I have Launchy as my launching tool, pretty handy in a sense that you don’t need to browse over and look for the app which you want to run. You just hit a hot key and viola! my launcher pops up, waiting for me to key in the name of file or app which I want to open and then I hit Enter. Same goes with QuickSilver. Only QuickSilver is not your average launching tool ;). Through the duration of your use of QuickSilver, it “learns” about what you frequently search and launch on your machine thereby giving you more precise suggestions. Also, it associates and suggests several actions which you can do with the app or file you are searching for, which is by the way customizable in its preference window. Samples of such actions are to edit a file (text or image) using editors you have in your system, send a file as attachment through email, move a file to the trash bin, and a whole bunch more!! πŸ™‚ As QuickSilver’s tag line says, based from Lao-tse’s words of wisdom, Wei Wu Wei (Act Without Doing). Now isn’t that rocking cool!! πŸ˜€ Well, apparently you still need to do something to get things done, only you get to act less and do more with QuickSilver. πŸ™‚ You might want to check it out at Blacktree‘s site. Enjoy! πŸ˜€ ο£Ώ

New SQA Test Bed. . .Ready to Roll, Sir!

SQA Test Bed

"The New SQA Test Bed"

I am happy that our requested software test bed arrived into our office last week. I and Farvey, our system administrator, set all the units up and did some cabling. Also, I tagged each unit for inventory purposes. Unfortunately 2 of the LCDs was sent back to the vendor for fixing due to crappy flickers on the screen. We also had some hard time running Ubuntu Linux 9 aka Karmic Koala on 2 of the machines. The LCD was displaying this nasty grid of multicolor lines every time we boot it up. I am thinking that this might be due to Ubuntu’s compatibility issues with i5. 😦 I just hope we get this thing up and running smoothly for the next couple of weeks because we are now heading for the end game.

Good luck team! πŸ™‚
